01

Supported Windows builds and the files to obtain before installation.

Download current release

RE_Kenshi supports 64-bit Windows installations of the Kenshi builds listed in the current release card. Steam and GOG players use the same upstream release, but should confirm that the installer has selected the intended game directory.

Before beginning, close Kenshi and its launcher. Download the standard release archive from the linked GitHub release, then extract the entire archive to a temporary folder. Do not run the installer from inside the compressed file.

Extract the complete release and use the supported installer workflow.

Install RE_Kenshi

  1. Open the extracted standard release archive.
  2. Run the included RE_Kenshi_vX.X.X.exe installer.
  3. Select the intended Steam or GOG Kenshi installation.
  4. Follow the installer prompts and let compatibility setup finish.
  5. Start Kenshi through its normal launcher or executable.

The installer is the recommended path because it performs the supported compatibility setup and provides the normal upgrade and uninstall workflow.

03

Confirm that RE_Kenshi loaded before adding extensions.

Verify the installation

At the main menu, look for the RE_Kenshi version string. Its presence proves that the framework loaded; verify this before adding another native extension.

If the string does not appear, stop here and use the troubleshooting guide. Adding plugins before the base installation is verified makes the cause harder to isolate.

04

Understand the supported Kenshi versions and platform notes.

Compatibility

The current release data below is the site’s source of truth for supported game versions and platforms. Follow its installer guidance exactly; do not substitute instructions written for another Kenshi executable.

After installer setup on the newer supported build, --norekenshi can start vanilla Kenshi with RE_Kenshi disabled. This is useful for comparison and isolation, not as a repair step.

Kenshi1.0.68

Installer required

The installer creates the compatible RE_Kenshi executable and preserves a vanilla launch option.

Kenshi1.0.65

Installer recommended

Manual installation is available for supported 1.0.65 installations.

05

Maintain an existing installation without inventing manual cleanup steps.

Upgrade or remove

Upgrade

Download and fully extract the current standard archive, run its installer, and select the existing Kenshi installation. Follow the update prompts.

Uninstall

Run the release installer, select the Kenshi installation, and choose Uninstall. If the installer cannot run, removing Plugin=RE_Kenshi from Plugins_x64.cfg disables the framework; consult upstream guidance before deleting other files manually.
