Install RE_Kenshi

Use the installer for the clearest, safest path across supported Steam and GOG versions.

The installer performs compatibility setup, supports upgrades, and provides the normal uninstall path.

  1. 01

    Download the standard archive

    Open the current GitHub release and download the standard archive.

  2. 02

    Extract everything

    Extract the complete archive to any temporary location. Do not run the installer from inside the archive.

  3. 03

    Run the installer

    Launch RE_Kenshi_vX.X.X.exe from the extracted files.

  4. 04

    Select Kenshi

    Follow the prompts and confirm the intended Steam or GOG installation.

  5. 05

    Launch normally

    Start Kenshi through its normal launcher or executable after installation completes.

  6. 06

    Verify the version

    Confirm that the RE_Kenshi version string appears on the main menu.

Supported builds

Compatibility

RE_Kenshi is based on Kenshi 1.0.65. The installer handles the supported 1.0.68 compatibility path.

The installer creates the compatible RE_Kenshi executable and preserves a vanilla launch option.

Manual setup and maintenance

Manual installation for supported 1.0.65 builds
Advanced path

Manual installation is intended only for supported Steam and GOG builds of Kenshi 1.0.65. Use the installer for 1.0.68.

  1. Download and extract the latest RE_Kenshi_vX.X.X_loose.zip release.
  2. Copy RE_Kenshi.dll, KenshiLib.dll, CompressToolsLib.dll, and the complete RE_Kenshi directory into the Kenshi installation root.
  3. Open Plugins_x64.cfg and add Plugin=RE_Kenshi as the first plugin, before Plugin=RenderSystem_Direct3D11_x64.
  4. Start Kenshi and confirm the RE_Kenshi version on the main menu.
Upgrading RE_Kenshi

Download the current standard archive, extract it completely, and run the included installer. Select the existing Kenshi installation and follow the update prompts.

Uninstalling RE_Kenshi

Run the release installer, select the Kenshi installation, and choose Uninstall. If the installer cannot run, remove Plugin=RE_Kenshi from Plugins_x64.cfg to disable the mod.

Opening RE_Kenshi settings again

From the main menu or the in-game Esc menu, open Options → Mods → RE_Kenshi Settings.
